Set Visit: Orgy of Blood: First Images!

You know what's fun? Orgies. You know what is also cool? Blood. So you can imagine my excitement when I was invited out to the set for Creep Creepersin's new flick Orgy of Blood.

I was sent out to this giant Gothic looking mansion in the outskirts of the Hollywood Hills area and began having a slight panic attack with the thought that maybe this wasn't just a set visit but a clever ruse by a group of vampire filmmakers to capture a member of the press and torture and maim him until there was nothing left.

Obviously I was apprehensive when I got onto set, but I was immediately greeted by Creep himself, who looked tired and excited all at once.

This is the hardest thing I've ever done, but it is so worth all the sacrifice,” Creep tells me while they set up the next shot.

The story focuses on Fosco, played by Domiziano Arcangeli, or Domi for short, a 300- year-old vampire who lives in a giant mansion with his wife Sabina (Lorielle New) and son Dimitri (Chandler Maness). Their lives are a non-stop lust orgy where anything goes and always does! Until outsiders Fauna and her boyfriend Micah show up and turn the ecstasy-driven clan into murderous back-stabbers, hell-bent on revenge and power.

There is a lot of sex in this thing. It seems to be a cross between 70's Italian and classic horror,” says Creepersin.

As Creep and I are talking, a giant man comes walking up looking like, for lack of a better description, Dracula. This has to be Domiziano Arcangeli.

"I never felt fear,” says Arcangeli who's also executive producer. “I always experienced a sense of slight pleasure in watching all of this coming together. And I loved making a real Gothic and erotic vampire movie and not an action vampire movie. We explored the 'interiors' of vampires and my work was based mainly in getting to know how to live like one and I discovered that it's so close to the way the life of a true artist should be. No red carpets, no auditions, no rush, nothing.. but listening to your heart," he tells me this with enthusiasm literally dripping from his words. It's infectious. You can just feel that the people on-set are having a great time.

I still have no idea what they are shooting today though, so I'm anxious to wander around the set some more. I have moved no more than four feet when I pass two naked women preparing for the scene and the special effects artist Tom Devlin.

Yeah, there's a lot of naked people,” Tom tells me when he sees my reaction to the nudies. Okay, so they are definitely covering the orgy part of Orgy of Blood, but what about the blood part? Tom has it well in hand. “What I'm setting up now is when we have an innocent party guest, hanging from two ropes in the ceiling, raining blood on the vampires like a garden sprinkler!”says Tom as he rigs up what I assume is the blood sprinkler.

At that moment Creep comes and grabs me for the scene they are shooting downstairs. It's a simple set-up of Domi and actress Naama Kates (Fauna) walking up some stairs, erotically. Creep gives me a peek at the Red One monitor to see the action through the lens. I have to say, digital filmmaking has never looked better!

Shooting on the red is quite an experience,” says Creep. “The colors in the flick are just amazing, and this story is very unique in its scope and is something that will set this apart from other films in the genre.

After they shoot the scene, I make my way outside, passing by numerous nude people in the process. Outside I run into co-producer Nikki Wall and actress Elissa Dowling (Eve), who join me for a smoke break.

As producer, it was an awesome opportunity to work with so many great people, and this has to be one of my favorite projects I've ever worked on,” says Nikki. She then proceeds to throw a sweatshirt over my head that apparently was hanging on a penis the day before. I curse her under my breath and turn to Elissa to talk to her about her involvement.

"Well, as long as it involves an orgy, I'm there. I mean, who wouldn't be?" says Elissa. I'm inclined to agree with this. "My favorite part of the shoot so far was filming at the S&M club; I've been frequenting there ever since!” she laughs. For an independent horror film, their production value is through the roof on this thing! Color me surprised. I go back inside to see the next set-up and run into Producer Aine Leicht of HNH Entertainment. She looks exhausted, but in that good working way.

"We've had a few really long nights to get through, with all kinds of nude extras, special props, and lighting set-ups,” says Aine. “I couldn't have asked for a better cast and crew to pull through all of it without sacrificing anything. Our outdoor party scene required a huge rented fountain, moonlight, and many, many nude extras. It was surreal to see all these beautiful bodies walking around this castle-like home we shot in. I can't wait to see it all edited together."

Have I mentioned that this movie is filled to the brim with nudity? Tom Devlin is setting up the blood sprinkler, and Creepersin is going over lines with Domi in the next room. I'm giddy as a schoolgirl for this next scene. Domi walks away to prepare himself for the scene, and Creep and I get to talking some more.

Domi is the best actor I have ever worked with hands down. It's as if he was made to be a star of the silver screen or even the silent era. He has so much emotion all the time in his face and can convey it the same way Lon Chaney Sr. or Vincent Price could. Another thing about this is that the characters in the subplot are just as great as the main cast. Jed Rowen, Randal Malone, Phoebe Dollar, Elissa Dowling, Ariauna Albright -- they all steal the show a bit in their own right.” I can tell that Creep is having a blast doing this, and honestly who wouldn't have fun making a movie called Orgy of Blood?

They start shooting the scene, and blood is flying everywhere and the actors are eating it up (the scenery and the fake blood). It was a symphony of madness and mayhem, and all-around fucking awesome.

I had a blast on the set, and from the amount of fun the cast and crew were having, it looks like that same enthusiasm will carry over into the finished product. I don't know if they are trying for a theatrical release or if their plan is straight to DVD, but whatever the case is, look for Orgy of Blood sometime this year.

First look: Creep Creepersin’s ORGY OF BLOOD

Thursday, May 07, 2009 02:52 PM Samuel Zimmerman News - Film News

orgyofbloodthumbFango recently heard from the creators of ORGY OF BLOOD, the latest from indie writer/director Creep Creepersin, whose O.C. BABES AND THE SLASHER OF ZOMBIETOWN just got announced for DVD (see info here). His new movie (see exclusive photos below) is an erotic vampire opus starring and executive-produced by Italian actor Domiziano Arcangeli.

The story centers on Fosco (Arcangeli, first photo), a 300-year-old bloodsucker who lives a lustful lifestyle in an opulent mansion with his wife Sabina and their son Dimitri. Their lives are a nonstop orgy where anything goes—until the human Fauna and her boyfriend Micah arrive and begin turning the trio violently against each other. While Creepersin (second photo) scripted, it was Arcangeli who brainstormed the concept and story idea. “When I was growing up in Italy in the ’70s, there was this very famous adult-themed comic strip called VAMPIRELLA,” he tells Fango. “It was just wonderful: a true kaleidoscope of exploitation and genius, a bit like a movie by [CALIGULA’s] Tinto Brass [with whom Arcangeli worked on his 1991 film PAPRIKA). All the kids were trying to buy copies of VAMPIRELLA at the newspaper stands, but it was difficult because they were forbidden to minors. Whenever someone was able to steal one from their dad or older brother, we would pass it along to each other like crazy. It was like a dream, for me at least. Like a Gothic erotica, strongly influenced by the pop art and B movies of the time.”

VAMPIRELLA prompted Arcangeli to believe that was how vampire lore should be told. “I loved the classic Bram Stoker novel, of course, and had a certain fascination for Anne Rice at some point,” he says, “but for me, the perfect vampiric story had to be like an episode of VAMPIRELLA—the most politically incorrect type of sexuality, formally and visually gorgeous to look at, with a decadence and Gothic darkness in it.”

“When I spoke with Domi,” Creepersin says, “he really wanted to see a very erotic vampire film that was full of mystery. So that started the wheels turning. Another thing we both agreed on was that we wanted this to be very shocking—not in the aspect of normal shock value, but in the form of the art we portray. Part of this involved bringing in a bisexual angle, as well as the incest theme. We both wanted it to feel like a foreign film in regards to making everything from the sexuality to the killing extremely beautiful. Once we got the location, and seeing Domi in his wardrobe, the film immediately had a feel that encompasses things like silent Lon Chaney films, Hammer horror and even the art of Dario Argento. It is really something beautiful to see.” The cast also includes indie-horror habitués Lorielle New, Randal Malone, Jeff Dylan Graham, Phoebe Dollar, Elissa Dowling and Ariauna Albright, with appearances by fetish performers the NecroGirls.

ORGY OF BLOOD was shot on Sony’s 4K RED hi-def camera, of which Arcangeli says, “It’s like my baby. I love the quality, and I prefer it even to film. It’s so clear, crisp and deep. As an actor, I must say: You’d better look good and be careful with the makeup, because the RED is great, but it does not forgive face wrinkles, lines or makeup imperfections. It sees everything.”

Producer Aine Leicht echoes his sentiments, explaining, “This was my first feature using the RED, and I couldn’t be happier with the results, the way it picks up colors and light. Plus, the depth of quality is beautiful, especially in low light and when using candles.”

“We were trying to make an American-foreign film, if that makes any sense,” Creepersin adds. “When writing the treatment, the only two films that we were trying to blend were THE HUNGER and EYES WIDE SHUT—not so much in story but in feel.” Aside from VAMPIRELLA, Arcangeli cites literature from the period and setting they were trying to embody. “My strongest influence has been the decadence of certain rare Gothic gems from the 1700s or 1800s,” he says. “I think about novels like THE MONK by Matthew Lewis, which is a true masterpiece. All of that obscure literature, mixed with the erotica of pop art and certain European films from the ’70s and ’80s, which are also part of my professional background.”

The result of so many inspirations and ideas has resulted in a movie that Creepersin, Arcangeli and Leicht truly believe to be something special. Creepersin notes, “The story itself is very different from any other vampire film out there, while still giving genre fans the bit of lore and visuals that they have become familiar with.”

“ORGY OF BLOOD is very much a return to a darker, more Gothic and sexually perverse world of vampirism,” adds Leicht. “So many vampire films right now are more action- or teen-oriented, and we really wanted to put their dark and sexual nature back into the mix. This story focuses much more closely on a family of vampires and their own inner conflicts, dealing with their mortality—or lack thereof—and how they cope when an outside element comes in and turns their world upside down.”

ORGY OF BLOOD looks to satisfy and revel in our darkest sensibilities, while putting a smile on our faces. “It should at least bring to audiences’ attention a different point of view on the classic vampire story,” Arcangeli says. “We all saw UNDERWORLD and such; now let’s go for something more gaudy, saturated, sleazy and gory! Can you tell how much fun I’m having?” You can read more about ORGY OF BLOOD at its MySpace page.
